About

Hello! My name is Kyle Salandy. I am a graduate of the Fine Arts program at Xavier University of Louisiana, where I studied under Professor Mapo Kinnord. I am a second-year graduate student pursuing dual degrees in a Master of Fine Arts concentrating in ceramic sculpture and a Master of Arts in Art Education at the University of Cincinnati.

In my creative practice, I explore the realities of the first-generation immigrant population and the identities of marginalized communities within my art. I identify with and see the importance of how personal and collective history relate to each other. I am inspired by narratives of resilient, hurt communities, those that have gone unspoken or misrepresented in mainstream narrative, and seek to bring them to the forefront. Working in various mediums, predominantly ceramics, I aim to create artwork that explores the nuance of such experiences and the act of healing, reflection, and commenting on society. I aim to focus on the living conditions of people at the margins, showing them the bravery and endurance they exhibit in the face of historical and political suppression.
